Chandigarh, November 20, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau): A much-anticipated animated film on Sikh history and Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji has been put on hold after a sharp intervention from the SGPC and Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The makers of “Hind Di Chadar – Guru Ladho Re” announced on social media that they were postponing the release, which was earlier slated for November 21. The decision follows a formal directive from the highest temporal authority of the Sikhs, citing concerns over accuracy and adherence to religious guidelines.
The SGPC’s Chief Secretary, Kulwant Singh Mannan, said Sri Akal Takht Sahib acting Jathedar, Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, has issued a clear order stopping the film’s release after an internal review committee pointed out serious historical and conceptual inconsistencies. Mannan said the portrayal of Guru Sahiban through animation is against Sikh tenets and violates established norms set by the Akal Takhat Sahib. He urged the filmmakers to respect Sikh sensitivities and comply with the directive.
While the film’s creators have expressed hope of addressing the flagged issues, they have not announced a new release date. The SGPC has maintained that any depiction of Guru Sahib must follow strict guidelines to ensure accuracy, sanctity and alignment with Sikh maryada.
