Sri Amritsar Sahib, February 15, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau): Former Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, who was recently removed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has hinted at entering politics. Declaring himself a student of religion, he indicated that if the “truant” Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) forces him to indulge in, he is ready to step onto the political pitch.
In an open interaction with the media, Giani Harpreet Singh asked the seven-member oversight committee appointed for Akali Dal’s enrolment drive, by urging them to take over the process independently as per the directives of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, even if they are fewer in number. He accused SAD of running away from Akal Takht Sahib’s orders and labeled it a “truant party.”
Further, he alleged that the ongoing Akali Dal membership drive is completely bogus, claiming that the party is inducting fake members. He pointed out the discrepancy in numbers, stating that SAD received only 18 lakh votes in the recent parliamentary elections, yet now it is falsely projecting a recruitment figure of 35 lakh members.
Referring to the seven-member committee meeting held recently at Chandigarh, Giani Harpreet Singh remarked that there was no need to invite Akali Dal’s executive president, Balwinder Singh Bhundar to the meeting. Instead, he asserted that the committee should have taken steps for enrolment process in the Akali Dal on its own.
