Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI accepting Rs 3000 bribe

Chandigarh, April 9, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption, on Wednesday, arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jaswant Singh, posted at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar, for accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000.
An official spokesperson of the VB disclosed that the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.
He further added that the complainant has alleged that his son had an accident with an autorickshaw and the aforementioned ASI allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 to resolve the case. Subsequently the complainant paid Rs 3,000/m as bribe to the accused ASI for ensuring a favorable outcome in the matter.
The spokesperson informed that after a thorough verification of the complaint and supporting evidence, it was found that the accused had indeed accepted the bribe. In this regard a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the said accused at the VB Police Station, Range Amritsar. The accused would be produced before the competent court tomorrow, and further investigation is ongoing.
