Chandigarh, March 16, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) – In a significant development the Punjab government has decided to withdraw the National Security Act (NSA) charges against seven Sikh detainees currently held in Dibrugarh Jail, Assam, and is preparing to bring them back to Punjab. According to official sources, the detainees, who are associates of ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit chief and MP Amritpal Singh, will be transferred to Punjab for further legal proceedings and to join trials in different cases.
The decision comes about two years after the alleged attack on the Ajnala police station in Amritsar on February 23, 2023, where a crowd of approximately 200-250 people, reportedly armed with deadly weapons and led by Amritpal Singh, stormed the station to free one of their associates from police custody. The Punjab Police are now gearing up to take action in this high-profile case and other related cases.
Official sources revealed that all seven detainees would be transported from Dibrugarh Jail to Punjab in this week. Among those being brought back are Daljit Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh (Prime Minister Bajeke), Papal Preet Singh, Kulwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Basant Singh, and Harjit Singh (Amritpal Singh’s uncle).
It is worth noting that Amritpal Singh, along with nine other Sikh youths, has been in detention for nearly two years. Additionally, a case has been registered against ‘Prime Minister’ Bajeke in Chandigarh, raising speculation that he may also face detention in Chandigarh Tihar Jail.
The Punjab government’s decision not to extend the NSA against Amritpal’s associates marks a turning point in the case, as the state police prepare to tighten the legal noose around those involved in the Ajnala police station attack.
