Kuldeep Singh Gargajj Named Jathedar of Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib and Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib; Baba Tek Singh Dhanoula to Lead Takht Sri Damdama Sahib
Amritsar, March 7, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) In a major reshuffle within Sikh religious leadership, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced significant changes to the leadership of the Takhts (temporal seats of authority). These decisions come in the wake of recent developments in Sikh religious politics and aim to strengthen the governance and spiritual guidance of the Sikh community.
The Executive Committee of the SGPC held a meeting at Amritsar on Friday has appointed Head Granthi Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, S. Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, as the new Jathedar of Sri Keshgarh Sahib and Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He will replace Giani Raghbir Singh and Giani Sultan Singh, who have been relieved of their duties as Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Keshgarh Sahib, respectively.
Additionally, Baba Tek Singh Dhanoula, a respected member of the SGPC, has been appointed as the new Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib. This appointment follows the recent removal of Giani Harpreet Singh from the position of Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib by the SGPC Executive Committee.
These decisions were made after extensive deliberations by the SGPC Executive Committee, which emphasized the need for strong, accountable, and visionary leadership to address the challenges facing the Sikh community. The appointments reflect the SGPC’s commitment to upholding the sanctity of Sikh institutions and ensuring that they remain aligned with the teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib.
The recent changes in Sikh religious leadership come amid ongoing discussions within the community about the role of the Takhts and the need for transparency and unity in addressing contemporary issues. The removal of Giani Harpreet Singh and the subsequent appointments signal a renewed focus on accountability and the evolving needs of the Panth (Sikh community).
The Sikh community has expressed mixed reactions to these developments. While many have welcomed the changes as a step toward revitalizing Sikh institutions, others have called for greater clarity on the decision-making process. The SGPC has assured the community that all decisions were made with the utmost care and in the best interest of the Panth.
Until permanent appointments are finalized, the newly appointed leaders will assume their responsibilities immediately.
