Asks SGPC to review new education policy of union govt
Sri Anandpur Sahib, March 15, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) From the precincts of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj announced the launch of a major Gurmat movement to connect the Sangat with the Guru Panth on Baisakhi. This movement will begin from the homes of underprivileged Sikhs. He appealed to all Sikh organizations to actively participate and support this initiative to promote Sikhi in the state.
Expressing deep concern, Jathedar Gargaj stated that Punjab is currently grappling with menace of drugs and religious conversions are taking place even in the Majha region which is a highly alarming situation. Speaking about the Punjabi language he lamented that people in Punjab are increasingly distancing themselves from their mother tongue. He urged the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to consult experts and deliberate on whether the new education policy is in the best interest of Punjab.
Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh emphasized that Punjab is our homeland. In 1947, Sikhs faced a massive displacement and our beloved Gurdwaras were separated from us. He stated that Punjab is currently being turned into a “colony” by anti-Punjab forces with outsiders coming in and taking over land. He pointed out that while Punjabis are not allowed to settle or vote freely in other states, non-Punjabis are being registered as voters in Punjab at an alarming rate, which is a dangerous trend.
He warned that anti-Panthic forces are attempting to take control of our Gurdwaras but such forces will not be allowed to administer these sacred places. Jathedar Gargaj also highlighted that anti-Sikh deras are trying to divide the community and it is the duty of all Sikhs to stop them.
Taking a sharp dig at dera Sirsa head, he stated that Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners) have been languishing in jails for over the years, while those accused of heinous crimes are being released on parole frequently, which is completely unjust. Referring to the Maur bomb blast, he said that the vehicle used in the blast was prepared at the dera of the Sirsa-based Sadh. Although the blast was labeled as a terrorist attack on paper, justice has yet to be served.
Jathedar Gargaj also targeted the central government, stating that the Narendra Modi-led administration had promised to release Bandi Singhs during the previous elections but this promise remains unfulfilled even after nearly six years. He stressed that unity is essential for achieving any goal adding he said, “Due to our lack of our unity, Delhi is keeping us under pressure.”
