Chandigarh, November 19, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) – The leader of the opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Wednesday, issued a scathing condemnation of the alarming surge in targeted killings and relentless threat calls against political leaders in Punjab.
Bajwa directly accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who also holds the Home Portfolio, of abjectly failing to stem the explosive rise of organised crime, calling the government’s inaction a grave betrayal of public trust.
“Punjab’s communal harmony is now on the brink, shattered by brutal targeted killings and a wave of terror unleashed on political leaders. The daylight murder of a young RSS volunteer in Ferozepur and the brazen attack on a Shiv Sena Punjab leader in Phagwara exemplify the escalating lawlessness. Beyond political figures, innocent civilians are being gunned down in Banga, Amritsar, and Chheharta. This is not just a lapse, this is a collapse of law and order,” Bajwa declared.
The senior Congress leader further argued that although the Aam Aadmi Party-led government frequently boasts of controlling crime, the grim situation on the ground exposes those claims as hollow.
Bajwa also delivered a sharp critique of the government’s handling of Punjab’s drug crisis. He said the administration has utterly failed to advance its promise of making Punjab drug-free, despite repeated assurances and public declarations. In a striking example of public frustration, residents of Nangal Kalan village in Mansa district have reportedly taken it upon themselves to curb the spread of Chitta, reflecting what Bajwa described as a deeper systemic failure. Their self-initiated campaign, he said, highlights the ineffectiveness of the state’s anti-drug drive, which has yet to produce the outcomes repeatedly pledged by the Mann government.
“If CM Mann is incapable of responsibly managing the Home Portfolio, then he must relinquish it immediately, for the greater good of Punjab and the safety of its people,” Bajwa demanded.
