Chandigarh, February 23, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) – Renowned Punjabi film actress and social activist Sonia Maan has officially announced her entry into politics. Today, she reached the office of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi, where she took the party’s primary membership and formally joined AAP.
She is the daughter of late farmer leader Baldev Singh Maan. She had been attending AAP programs for a long time and in the recent Delhi assembly elections, she also participated in the Aam Aadmi Party’s election campaign and has been motivating people to vote.
From Farmers’ Protest to Politics
Sonia Maan was highly active during the farmers’ protest, where she participated in demonstrations at the Singhu border in Delhi and emerged as a strong voice in support of the farmers. Her involvement in the movement gained her significant popularity, and political parties had been extending invitations for her to join them. Even during the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, there were widespread speculations about her joining a political party, but she did not make any official announcement at that time.
From Artist to Social Worker and Now a Political Leader
Sonia Maan is a well-known figure in the Punjabi film and music industry. She has worked in several hit films and songs, including Honeymoon, Haatland, and Thukra Rehan De. Apart from her contributions to Punjabi cinema, she has also made appearances in Bollywood. Beyond her acting career, she has always been at the forefront of social issues, particularly advocating for farmers’ rights and youth empowerment.
Reason for Joining AAP
Speaking on the occasion of her induction into AAP, Sonia Maan stated, “I have always wanted to contribute to Punjab’s welfare. The work AAP has done in education, healthcare, and fighting corruption has inspired me. Now is the time for me to step up and work at the political level for the betterment of Punjab and its people.”
Sonia Maan’s Role in AAP’s Strategy
Sonia Maan’s entry into AAP is being seen as a significant development in Punjab’s political landscape. The party is likely to leverage her popularity and influence among the youth as a strategic advantage in the upcoming elections.
It will be interesting to see how actively Sonia Maan participates in AAP’s political campaigns and whether she succeeds in carving out a new chapter in Punjab’s political history.
It’s interesting to note that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was not present on the occasion and she has not tagged her tweets to CM account but only two senior Punjab ministers.
